Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:4-6 (NIV)

Request Date: 12/7/2005 Prayer Requested By: Linda Farinas with Louisiana Baptist State Convention Contact Email: brunet1995@yahoo.com Prayer Request: Linda Farinas is still missing her 89 year old aunt from hurricane Katrina. If you recall, she asked for prayer for her aunt when the hurricane hit. Her name is Opampia Reeves. They have used all available resources to find her. They are trying to find out if she is listed as a body with no name, but that is moving slow.
Please continue to pray for her family and her as not knowing is very stressful. (brunet1995@yahoo.com)
Update: 12/20/2005 - Thank you for the prayers and support you have shown during the time my aunt was missing. We finally heard from someone concerning where she is. She didn’t survive the strom. She was removed from her home dead.
We called the morgue several times and was told they had no match on her name or address. We also called Red Cross several times and they assured us she was rescued and taken to the Convention Center. They were trying to find where she went after the Convention Center. None of the information we received were true. We decided to provide the morgue with her dental records and they came up with a match. Not knowing where your love one is hurts, but knowing she was right here and no one seem to care hurts worst. My family and I have been through a lot of unnessary stress an worry trying to just get information about my aunt. My mother and her sister both hospitalize for 2 week from not knowing. MSNBC wrote a national story about my missing aunt because no one was giving my family answers. She was the pillar of our family and we are going to miss her deeply. Like I have said in my previously letters God is always in control and He will see us through her loss. Now we can finally bring closue to OPYMPIA REEVES (NANNY). To the CMCA I would like to say THANKS again, for prayers, support, concerns, and just continuing to remember my aunt Please continue to keep my family in your prayers. Linda
Request Date: 11/29/2005 Prayer Requested By: Karen Szemborski - Hilton Daytona Beach Ocean Walk Village Contact Email: kszemborski@pyramidhotels.com Prayer Request: Karen’s friend and fellow hotel Sales Manager is asking for prayer for her Goddaughter. Ryan Nuckolas is 15 and was in a head on collision Thanksgiving evening in her home town of Asheville, NC. A piece of plastic went thru her chin and up into her eye. She is losing the eye and will need a lot of plastic surgery on her face. Ryan’s Mother’s name is Connie and they are asking for prayer.
Let us pray for understanding and faith for Connie and Ryan. I know God will heal her body but she will need a lot of strength to get thru all of this. She was not killed and for that we need to be grateful. God has more work for her to accomplish here on earth.
Update: 12/20/2005 - Ryan the young girl who was in the auto accident and lost her eye just had surgery at Chapel Hill. They did take the entire eye and are not sure if they will be able to put in an rtificial eye due to damage to her eye lid. Her face is quite mangled and she is looking at extensive plastic surgery. Her mother is back to work but Ryan has not looked at herself in the mirror yet and probably will not for some time to come.
Please continue prayers for this girl who will need to find strength to face not only the surgery but her peers as well.
Request Date: 9/7/2005 Prayer Requested By: Elizabeth Sandoz Contact Email: esandoz@hotelroanoke.com Prayer Request: Elizabeth’s mother from Mississippi is homeless and staying with friends. Plrease remember her in prayer as she rebuilds her life.
Update: 12/20/2005 - Elizabeth’s mother is living in Long Beach in a FEMA trailer. She is a fighter and is trying to adjust. Please continue to pray for her.
Request Date: 9/7/2005 Prayer Requested By: David Law - Hyatt Regency Dallas @ Reunion Contact Email: dlaw@hyatt.com Prayer Request: The Hyatt New Orleans is closed until March 31, 2006, so please pray for our employees and their families.
Update: 12/8/2005 - Many employees have relocated to other Hyatt Hotels as the Hyatt New Orleans was heavily damaged and wil not be open until 2007! They were about ready to do an extensive guest room renovation in December 2005 anyway, so it made sense to simply shut down the hotel and make needed repairs to all areas at the same time.
Those that were not able, or willing to relocate are in temporary housing in Houston, Dallas, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and Atlanta, awaiting the renaissance of New Orleans.
While some hotels are up and running, other areas of New Orleans remain devastated, requiring tens of billions of dollars to rebuild. It will be a long process.
Request Date: 9/7/2005 Prayer Requested By: Carla McGlynn - ePlanet Travel Contact Email: carla@eplanettravel.com Prayer Request: Carla has been diagnosed with a degenerating disk disease, hypothyroid and fibro myalgia. That’s a lot of pain! Please pray for her healing.
Update: 12/8/2005 - I finally had my spinal fusion last Tuesday 11/29. Wow! It was pretty painful. I was in the hospital until Friday and now am at least enjoying a relatively full night’s sleep.
Please let everyone know that I am on my way to recovery and so appreciative of their prayers. I have to spend most of my time in the bed right now - I am getting up 4-5 times a day and walking slowly around the house then back to bed. Everyday I feel a little bit better though.
I have been so BLESSED by the Lord, everyone’s prayers and the love of my friends and family. My husband has only had to cook one meal...
I am really looking forward to being able to go back to work. I haven’t worked much for the last year. I had to cancel many events and my assistant has been handling the corporate travel by herself so our revenues are down drastically. I hope to be able to get back to work full time by February.
Again, please thank everyone for their prayers.
Carla
Request Date: 9/1/2005 Prayer Requested By: Jennifer Adams Contact Email: jadams_48@hotmail.com Prayer Request: Jennifer lost her home to fire. She would like us to pray for wisdom and they put the pieces back together. They need wisdom as they deal with insurance agents, contractors, finding a realtor and reassuring their two boys everytime there is lightning that it won’t hit their home.
Update: 12/8/2005 - I do have a praise report. After searching and searching we found a house and we move the week of December 12. Although we lost everything (material) in the fire. We never lost our faith and trust in God (Eternal). I read the story of Nehemiah during our rebuilding process and this encouraged me.
As my family starts over (we have to replace a lot), I am glad that I can still hear the sounds of my husband and children. No life was lost in the accident and no one had to go into the hospital. We are blessed to have a great church and wonderful family and friends.
This Christmas Season I have been truly blessed with the gift of family.
Thank you for remembering and God Bless all the members of CMCA.
Jennifer Adams
Request Date: 9/14/2005 Prayer Requested By: Eric Luedtke Contact Email: Erick.Luedtke@comcast.net Prayer Request: Eric and two of his co-workers lost their jobs this week. Please pray for them as they go through this time of transition in their lives. Pray for desired new jobs to open for them.
Update: 12/7/2005 - It’s been a trying few months. I’ve had a lot of support from the people around me and had much time to focus on my future and career goals. Much has come from this time of being unemployed, but as yet, a job offer has not surfaced.
I contacted and heard back from several meeting planners in the area, but it seems that opportunities are very tight and for each opening there are hundreds of applicants. I’ve broadened my search beyond meeting planning in the hope of finding something, but nothing yet.
While all this has been going on, I’ve been prayerfully considering another option altogether, which is to attend Seminary to become a pastor. It is something that God laid on my heart and I’ve been praying about and researching. In November my wife and I visited Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California and felt God really encouraging us to move there to study. So, I’ve been spending the last couple weeks filling out applications with PLTS and with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to make that a possibility. There are still many interviews, tests, and evaluations for me to take over the next few months, but it seems like God is leading us in this direction.
I appreciate the prayers and support of CMCA throughout these past few months of transition and change.
Request Date: 9/9/2005 Prayer Requested By: Shirley Ingram - Alexandria Pineville Area (LA) CVB Contact Email: shirley@apacvb.org Prayer Request: Alexandria did not suffer any damage from Katrina, however we are very much affected by the number of evacuees that are being housed in our area. We have over 10,000 in our area housed in more than 20 shelters. Our Alexandria Riverfront Center, which I manage, is home to over 520 residents at this time. Life has been crazy for the whole State.
Please pray for these displaced citizens that God will provide a way for them. Many of them are beginning to get over the shock of what has happened and are angry and scared. Please pray that God will provide comfort for their hurting hearts, strength and tenacity to see them through this lengthy time of uncertainty.
The plea from the Red Cross at this time is for money.
Shirley Alex
Update: 12/6/2005 - We praise God for the city and all they did for the evacuees.
Request Date: 9/1/2005 Prayer Requested By: Linda Farinas - Louisana Baptist State Convention Contact Email: brunet1995@yahoo.com Prayer Request: Linda is from Harvey, LA. She sends in this report.
The pictures are real but they do not tell the whole story. All you can do for me right now is to continue to pray for my city. My family and I went to Houston to ride the storm out. We only packed for 3 days because little did we know we would still be here. My family and I have much faith and we know God is always in control . We can’t worry about things we have no control over. I have been told my neighborhood is flooded and there is water in the house. My elders parents are with me and they have water in their home. We are not able to return so we won’t know how bad the damange is until we return home. We do need things but most all all we need prayers. Please continue to pray for my city.
My family and I are in Houston Tx with family members. We have 4 families living under this roof. Any assistance is appreciated. At this time we are in the process of looking for a home and schools for my kids in Houston. Just continue to pray for me and our city. Keep in tourch. We need to hear encourgaging words from people who care.
Update: 12/6/2005 - I apologize for just getting back with you but my life is just getting a sense of normalcy in it. We are now settled in an apartment in Houston. It took a while to find a place comfortable for my family with so many obstacles in our way, but God provided. I am satisfied I have my family in a safe environment. Now, everyone is trying to adjust. We will probable be here until schools ends. My husband had to return to New Orleans for work so I am here alone with my kids and parents.
I visited home last week and words can’t describe the conditions of the city. There is mold growing everywhere and bugs flying all over. It will be a while before the city sees progress. The pictures you see don’t tell the whole story.
My home suffered minor damages compared to my parents and other family members who lost of everything. My husband was able to return home and clean to stop the mold from spreading. We are now waiting for the insurance adjuster.
We are Bless people that we have so much to be thankful for and to live for. We will rebuild with the help of God. I know God has something bigger and better for us. He just wants us to let go of the past and hold on to the future. We are holding on to God promise because I know help is on the way.
I tell my family we walk by faith and not by sight. We may not understand everything we are going through right now, but hold your head up high, knowing that God is in control and He has great plans and a purpose for you.
CMCA members have done enough and for that I am thankful and grateful. As I stated before I thank God for my circle of friends and the people He has placed in my life.
I just ask that you continue to pray for my family, especially my aunt and parents. As of this day we still have not located my aunt. My mother was in the hospital for two weeks but doing better now.
Thank you for those encouraging Bible verses. May God continue to bless you so you may bless others.
PS As I end this letter something just came to my mind. My mission in life has always been gathering money, clothes, food, etc for others. I teach and trained my church youth group the importance of mission and now we are in need. People are helping us. I think about what CMCA has done for me. It is the thought behind the process.
We serve an almighty God and I know He is able.
Linda

Rita’s family is from Mississippi and Louisana. She hasn’t heard from several of her family members. Request Date: 9/1/2005 Prayer Requested By: Janice Landry (Southern Region Youth Conference - New Orleans) Contact Email: sryc2001@yahoo.com Prayer Request: I first thank God for allowing most of my entire family to be able to evacuate prior to the storm. We were not able to find one nephew (Timothy McGary) upon departure. We did hear from him and felt comfortable that he was in the Superdome shelter. Now that all have gone crazy in the city we are much concerned for his safety. Please keep him in your prayers.
We are staying with my niece on the out-skirts of Dallas in Wylie, Texas. There are 16 of us staying here and others now on the way. We did not think in our wildest dreams that this storm would be so devastating. According to the news channels, it appears that we have lost our homes. However, please know that we have not lost hope. Our hope is in Jesus. With Him all things are possible. We are clinging to the promises of God.
You asked if I needed anything. Yes, I need your prayers for me, my family and all families who have been affected by this storm.
We were told to take three days of needs and we would be returning to our homes on Wednesday. Now we are hearing that it could be weeks or months. We left with the bare minimals of needs. We welcome any assistance.
Thanks again for your concerns.
Update: 9/7/2005 - It is well with my soul! I praise God daily for life. I am in no way concerned about the material things I have lost for they were never mine - they all belong to God. He has blessed me and my family with food, shelter and clothing. His promises are SURE! ”I have never seen the righteous forsaken, nor His seed begging bread.”
This community that we are living in (Wylie, Texas) and my niece and her husband (Kevin and Shanel Mitchel) have been a tremendous blessing to us. The church in this community have blessed my family tremendously. The State offices in this community have kept their doors open to us to assist us with our needs. I know that is the grace and Spirit of God working in their hearts. I pray blessings upon them.
I only ask that you help those in your community who have come from Louisiana, Alabama and Mississipi as this community have help me.
Most important, never cease to pray for us as it seems we are in for the long haul. Pray that those who do not know the Lord and Savior will turn to Him and accept Him as Savior and Lord.
Janice M. Landry
